What is brass?

Brass materials are alloy combinations consisting of zinc and copper. Stronger than pure copper materials, brass exhibits many of the physical properties of pure copper, including being relatively malleable for easy forming in a variety of manufacturing processes. Brass is corrosion resistant, has leadfree alloys, is an inherently antimicrobial material, and a good conductor of electricity and heat, making it a popular choice in both the electric and plumbing industries.

There are various forms of stock brass available for purchase depending on the final product. The letter ‘C’ (which stands for copper) is assigned to all brass alloy materials, followed by a five digit numerical value to provide manufacturers and suppliers additional information on the product specifics. A five digit number starting with a one through seven signifies wrought brass material capable of being formed, forged or machined. Numerical designations that begin with an eight or nine are assigned to materials which are cast.  When choosing the right brass material for use, it is important to consider these factors as well as the specific material composition, weight, length, width and shape.

All Wieland-Wieland Chase material products are proudly American made. We offer a selection of the highest quality, brass and bronze material products to meet your demands and requirements. Wrought shapes come in hex, round, square, and/or rectangle brass bars and rods.

* Laboratory testing shows that, when cleaned regularly, CuVerro® surfaces kill greater than 99.9% of the following bacteria within 2 hours of exposure: Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), Staphylococcus aureus, Enterobacter aerogenes, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli O157:H7, and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecalis (VRE). The use of CuVerro® bactericidal copper products is a supplement to and not a substitute for standard infection control practices; users must continue to follow all current infection control practices, including those practices related to cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces. This surfaces has been shown to reduce microbial contamination, but do not necessarily prevent cross contamination.
