C38500 leaded brass is highly workable and an excellent alloy for a wide range of applications that include hot forging and pressing, hot forming and bending, soldering, and various machining processes. This alloy can be cut, drilled, and milled easily, making it cost-effective to manufacture into intricate parts. Applications range from architectural forgings and extrusions for door frames and storefronts to commercial hardware, fittings, and locks.

With its combination of excellent machinability (rated at 90), corrosion resistance, wear resistance, and aesthetic appeal, brass alloy C385 is versatile and a great choice for applications that call for both functional and visually appealing solutions. This includes a wide range of architectural design items as well as industrial components. Though classified as brass, alloy C385 yields a luxurious “bronze” finish – a distinct golden-to-reddish hue that patinas beautifully, making it an architectural design industry standard.

Common names for this alloy: Architectural Bronze, Alloy 3850, Alloy C385, C385 Brass, and UNS C38500.
